ーFor a moment, I saw dozens of thermometers which were scattered over the work desk in my atelier connect to each other. They lined up one after another in my brain making a red band. And, they started making a series of movements under the sun light coming through a window.－

The material that I have used for my artwork up until now is a thermometer, which I suppose everyone has touched at least once in their lives. It has no scales, so there is no way to read temperature by numbers. I arrange tens or hundreds or thousands of thermometers, thereupon, a red horizontal line of temperature emerges in sight. The red line moves up to make a mountain-like peak, once it detects the warmth of a human hand, and it goes back to the original horizontal line, when it is pulled away. Also, with the sun through the leaves shining onto them, the red line moves accordingly. Temperature is not visible, but it is everywhere. Once thermometers are arranged in line, a part of it appears as a scene of environmental temperature. I have made many different types of thermometer works so far. Right at this moment somewhere, they must be moving along with the change of temperature. My job is to visualize the world woven by temperature using thermometers in various ways.                                                                              Translation  Ayumi Kudo
