Thought While Walking in Fukushima 

Thermometers are arranged, then a red horizontal line appears as it reacts to the temperature of the place. The horizontal line is disturbed once someone touches it, and it goes back to the original status after a while once pulled away from it. What you see there is a new scenery of a relationship between me as a heat generator and others. I call the action of arranging the thermometers a drawing of temperature, and I have done it as a field work in various outdoor environments as well as in the galleries and museums. Video works especially are made in the attempt to connect the field works in an endless manner done in multiple places. 

After the Great East Japan Earthquake, an element was added. A Geiger counter is attached to the camera, and the electronic sound of the counter is recorded as well. The first work was to connect Fukushima and Iceland by a drawing, and it was exhibited in Iceland and Tokyo (Yes, I met Hafis in Iceland.). This time, I revisited Fukushima for the third time and made works there. 

The closer I got to that spot,  the louder and higher the sound and the number shown on the Geiger counter became. It always made me nervous and my heartbeat faster. Maybe I am coward, but it happens to me without fail. Every time I experience it, it reminds me of that this is the center of the world.                                                                                                            Translation Ayumi Kudo
