Horizon - ℃ Duo       Shake Hands Performance

You and I shake hands. We hold a thermometer in our hands, and the picture is taken. We start chatting to end until the liquid in the thermometer stops, while the line goes up thanks to the body temperature of the two people. Then, a mark is put by a pen at where the liquid stops, and the names of the two and the date are written on a piece of paper to attach to the marked point. I put the thermometer with the paper attached depending on the temperature of the gallery room. 

 This exhibition is meant to connect Iceland and Japan. In order to realize it, the thermometers with the marks by 129 Icelandic and 30 Japanese, pre-recorded in Japan, are set to produce the red horizontal line at 11℃ on the wall in the light house. The photographs are displayed on the walls on the other side as they face the thermometers.              Translation Ayumi Kudo
