RADIUM PALACE
In Jáchymov in the Czech Republic, where was used to be called Sankt Joachimsthal in Bohemia, there is Radium Palace Hotel, which was the first radium spa hotel in the world. The town was prosperous thanks to the silver mining and minting silver coins. The silver coin, Jochimsthaler, is the origin of the word, US dollars. ‘A stone of misfortune (pitch blend)’ was dug out in this quarry, which was turned out to be the first ore found in the history that contained radium of radioactive substance.

TEMPERATURE IN LIGHT ℃-HIKARI
When I make a work of thermometers, I use the temperature of the room as a reference. In most cases, the thermometers repeat a certain move along with the thermostat of the air conditioner in the room. On the other hand, for the field work where the thermometers are set outside, the on-going change of outside temperature and the sun light affect the result. It can be a comfortable sting. This work was originally made for Gallery 360°, which showed a horizontal line at 24℃. Now, the spotlights, whose source is the sunlight and electronic energy, are aimed at the thermometers. Each light is just a light, but it is turned into a visible temperature at the same time, and so that they influence the horizontal lines.
